About This Service

BBL® (Broad-Band Light) is a revolutionary treatment that sends light energy deep into the skin to boost your body's natural ability to fight the appearance of aging. The results? Skin that looks younger and younger year after year.

It is not just a beautify treatment, it is a preventative regimen. Whether addressing visible signs of sun and environmental damage or beginning a preventative treatment plan, BBL treatments can help.*

*This procedure is not available at all locations.

How BBL works

If brown spots are the target, BBL penetrates the skin to reach the melanocytes. The particles of the cells left behind will peel or slough off within 7-14 days.

If redness is the target, blood vessels in the deeper layer of the skin absorb the light and the heat created by the light damages the vessels. The vessels are shut down and the body continues to absorb the destroyed vessel remnants.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many BBL treatments do you need?

A series of 2-4 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart, is usually recommended to clear skin discolorations and vascular lesions. Each session lasts for 20-40 minutes.

What will happen during the BBL procedure?

Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. You may briefly feel a warm or “rubber band snap” sensation as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Your aesthetician will discuss all of your options with you including the benefits, risks and what to expect.

What should you do prior to BBL treatment?
  • Do NOT tan the areas to be treated for 4 weeks prior to treatment.
  • Avoid using self-tanning products for 2 weeks prior to treatment.
  • Shave the areas prior to treatment.
  • Do not use of the medication Accutane (isotretinoin) within 6 months of treatment.
  • Stop Retin-A, Retinol, Glycolic, and AHA products 2-3 days prior to treatment.
  • Let us know if you have a history of fever blisters if you are undergoing treatment on your face.
What should I expect after the BBL treatment?

You may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours. For some spots, you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Results depend on your skin type, the number of treatments, and the area treated.

What are post-treatment care instructions?
  • Quick, warm showers are recommended. If areas are treated other than the facial area, hot baths are not advised for 24 hours.
  • If the skin is broken or a blister appears, apply Aquaphor or Polysporin ointment and call the office. The area should be kept lubricated to prevent crusting or scabbing.
  • Apply cold packs, aloe vera or any other cooling preparation to ease temporary discomfort.
  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure for 4 weeks before and after treatment. In addition, apply a broad-spectrum sunblock/sunscreen daily and reapply often.
How long will it take to recover?

This is a noninvasive and typically gentle procedure with virtually no downtime. In most cases, you are able to return to work, and resume most of your activities immediately.
