Other things to know about around-the-mouth fillers:

Before your appointment:

• Avoid blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin or ibuprofen) and supplements (like fish oil or vitamin E) for 10 days prior to reduce bruising risk.
• Refrain from consuming alcohol 24 to 48 hours before your appointment, as it can increase the chance of bruising.

On the day of your procedure:

• Avoid exercise, alcohol and caffeine, as these can increase swelling and bruising.
• Stay hydrated, which can help your skin respond better to the treatment.

Immediately after your treatment:

• Minor bruising and swelling are normal after injections and typically resolve within a few days.

To reducing swelling:

• Swelling is usually most noticeable for 24 to 48 hours. Taking Arnica before and after your treatment may help reduce bruising.

Activities to avoid:

• Avoid exercise and saunas for at least 24 hours, as excessive heat and activity can worsen swelling and bruising.
• Refrain from touching, massaging, or applying pressure to the treated area to allow the filler to settle properly.
